In the last several years, I have had parents of both genders sit down with me and complain about the ways their rights are being denied. They are usually talking about the way in which an ex spouse or family court have denied them their parental rights. Sometimes, the parents do not realize that they are denying themselves. Other times, it is true. Something has thrown a divide between them and their child or them and a school, doctor, third party neutral or other person involved with their child. I have tired of listening to those who understand their own rights while dismissing the rights of another and I like to remind them that along with rights come responsibility.
This morning I saw a video from Dr. Jordan Peterson. He is also bringing responsibility back into the discussions about rights. In his video it is geared towards men, but parents in conflict that I refer to can be men or women.
